Ceramic/hardened GMT watches?
Hey everyone,
Summer is here and I've been wearing steel watches with short sleeves exposing them to the occasional encounter with another metal object, and that got me thinking about getting a scratch resistant quasi-"beater"; that means ceramic or hardened steel. I suppose a very very domed crystal that goes far out to the edges would also do the job.
I think my ideal "useful" complication set is annual calendar + GMT/dual time, but seeing how those only come from Blancpain, Rolex, and PP, and definitely not in hard materials, compromises are needed... dual time is really the useful complication for travelling. I guess world time is an acceptable substitute as well.
My style is not that adventurous (I have a LF Classic micro rotor, GS SD SBGA027, Seagull ST8004ZS + other plain inexpensive dress watches, I like pointy hands, skinny markers, not too thick), not really into the Panerai GMT ceramic, JLC AMVOX world timer. I didn't like the Octo Finissimo at first but I am starting to think it's a pretty neat lineup...however the GMT Octo comes with a chronograph (which I find completely useless) and that brings the price a little high for a beater IMO. Noticed the LUC Time Traveler One Black which is pretty attractive, but it's hardened titanium which I feel a little less easy about than steel, also price point feels a little high for a beater.
Anything I'm missing? Any ideas? I suppose hard upper cap of 18k new, preferably available at closer to 10 or less. My idea of an edgy but cool and clean watch is the Jaquet Droz Grande Seconde skeleton, but unfortunately there's no ceramic JDGS GMT. I may end up swapping out my GS for an old GS Spring Drive GMT or an Omega Deville GMT and sending the case for carbonitriding, since at that price point I don't care about resale value.
