...have established the Submariner as an obvious option, but I prefer Art's suggestion...I love the Overseas. A simple, stainless Nautilus would fit the bill, too.

Submariner as stated above I give my vote to Reverso by JLC It's indeed sporty, causal and elegant and God knows there is a plenty variations to choose from Sincerely Damjan P.S. As requested here is picture of my choice ...

For me the Jumbo is too precious and with 50m of WR too fragile for my life. The Sub is too ubiquitous and divey. But there are many others that work very well across the spectrum--Rolex Explorer 1, Blancpain Aqualung, VC Overseas, IWC Ingenieur, Omega Aq...

but I love this watch. I love the dial. My initial answer to the question posed is there is no one watch for every situation but the platinum Daytona may be as close as it gets. Great looking watch. Stewart
