After some wrist time with the Mark XVIII (Tribute to Mark XI)
I wonder why there was so much (online) bashing about this IWC release. I actually like it a lot, it’s fun to wear:
The long hands are really nice and even the date window is not an issue to me. With the black background it doesn’t stick out as it does on my Mark XII.
The movement is not in-house OK, but this isn’t a deal breaker for me in a tool watch. By the way, it hacks.

Good for you Uri, it is a nice watch indeed. But i do think each design can only take so many re releases/tributes or versions so thats maybe why there was some negative respons when it was
released? Mostly about the date window too which wasnt part of the XI. But i like a date window on a watch. My concern was more with the price/value part but thats a more personal evaluation. I tried the watch in person and i think it looks great so enjoy...

Can’t wait, please do so... but still, as important and nice as the Mark XI is, imho the Mark XVIII is a different watch in it’s own right.
Maybe the marketing people at IWC were a little ill advised and pushed it too far to label this watch as a tribute to the Mark XI, as there’s not that much resemblance indeed. Ancestor worship on the wrong track? Best, Uri

If you like the watch. Then wear and enjoy it. IWC make good watches.

Both are beautiful...
and actually the tribute was very successful as it sold out quickly... I also do not like the date but everything else is great. Granted, not an in house movement but think of the first versions of the Tudor black bay watches... Anyway, wear it and enjoy ...
