Nicolas (amanico) brings to light a truly exceptional and often-overlooked IWC Pilot's Watch: the Mark 12 Platinum from 1998. This post delves into the unique appeal of a precious metal tool watch, sparking a fascinating discussion among collectors about design purity, market specifics, and the evolution of the iconic Mark series. His appreciation for its date-free dial and adherence to the original spirit resonates with many who value classic pilot's watch aesthetics.

I never understood the reasoning behind precious metals used on tool watches. Furthermore, I personally prefer the plain look of the plain MK12. Photo borrowed from the interweb:
No date and why did they make the Platinum version without one but not the plain SS version?
And then IWC decided to destroy the dial with the 12...😉
I think the current Mark XVIII 39-41 mm size is more universally suited.
is such a thing. To me this is a so called "tool watch" and should be only stainless steel. Just an opinion but I think platinum should be reserved for more of a "dress watch" As mentioned, just an opinion.
so pure & charming. love the IWC logo & the hands is gorgeous. cheers
