Horological Meandering

Advice, please! How do the seconds indices at 5, 10, 15 et cetera 'work' on this watch?

I'd count the second when the seconds hand reaches the midpoint of the marker. [nt]

If it were a 'jumping' hand, this would be possible. With a 'sweeping' hand, however, you can only guess when it's in the centre of the very wide 5-seconds index. [nt]
