'Twas the night before Christmas...

Dec 15, 2007,14:13 PM

Hello all,

Just thought I'd add my own version to the thousands of ripoffs of "Twas the night before Christmas", now that the season is upon us (and for those many of you who do not celebrate Christmas, I hope you enjoy this simply for the watch thoughts!).

And after all, who among us hasn't dreamed of a fine watch under the tree?

Anyway, here goes:

'Twas the night before Christmas, and snug in his bed

A watch nut was conjuring gifts in his head.

He dreamed of a Rolex, a fine rugged piece,

And maybe a Rado to give to his niece.

If Santa would bring him a rose gold Dufour

Our WIS would be be joyous like never before.

But even for Santa, gift-bringer renowned,

A watch from Philippe was just not to be found.

So our WIS kept on dreaming, and soon thought he might

Find a Parmigiani by morning's first light.

Or if he'd been special, and not been a heel,

His stocking come morning might just hold a Mille!

What a wondrous creation, an RM oh three:

Could that be there waiting for him 'neath the tree?

He certainly hoped so, he prayed it was true,

But if not, then some other would just have to do.

A big gold Speake-Marin, now that would be nice!

A fine British timepiece would surely suffice.

Unless something Saxon should capture his heart,

Like a Lange Double Split, wondrous fine wristborne art!

Ah, the choices, the choices, what would our WIS do?

He'd wish for six dozen before he was through.

So maybe more modesty might do the trick:

He'd wish for Omega instead of Patek.

Yes, if Audemars Piguet is simply too dear,

Then more modest watches have pleasures quite clear:

A fine rugged Sinn, built with submarine steel,

Or an Oris, ah yes, that's a fabulous deal!

But our WIS isn't buying, he's getting a gift,

So he wants to aim higher, his spirits to lift.

And so up to the top, there his dreaming now tends:

Maybe Santa can bring him Max Busser and Friends!

Ah, yes! Now we're talking! Now this sounds just right:

A watch so fantastic it's love at first sight.

But Santa's an elf, not a hedge fund tycoon;

When he looks at the cost of the Busser, he'll swoon.

So our WIS's ambitions must sadly get real,

Perhaps his new watch won't be gold but mere steel.

But then, steel can be fine if it makes a Royal Oak,

So our WIS says to Santa: "that Mille? That's a joke."

After hours of dreaming, it's getting toward dawn,

And our WIS slowly wakens, and stifles a yawn.

It's Christmas! He wonders, what did Santa bring?

A watch for a pauper, or one for a king?

So as Christmas approaches, I wish you good cheer,

And that you get the watch that you hold the most dear.

Whether rose gold or platinum, white gold or steel,

May you cherish the joy your new watch makes you feel!

Cheers,

Rip (who used to be ripwatch, back in the old days of WatchRap)
