We’re definitely entering a cold market

It’s not just the auctions, either. Vintage dealers are struggling to move any pieces with condition below 10 out of 10. Some great opportunities if you’re comfortable with service parts or sub-perfect condition.

Christie's OAK auction results

Pretty shocking I would say. The most important lots were passed and lots of pieces went well below the lower estimate. A grand total of 36 watches weren't sold out of 139. A few results were especially impressive, like a unique Zenith sold well below hal...

Interesting post on the vintage breguet

None of the 3 military-looking Breguet sold

and yes, I think this info did cast a doubt over the 3 altogether

Flight to quality these days

Only the very special pieces get a full price That triple calendar vintage Breguet certainly looks like a steal

I think the problem was that many of the pieces simply weren’t “One of a Kind”.

While a Lange Double Split is a beautiful watch it’s not an OAK. The one sale that caught my eye was the 2015 Only Watch Voutilainen GMT-6 which went for HKD 3.5m. It’s been almost 4 years since I took delivery of my GMT-6 from Motiers but given the degre...

They’re all pretty much unique. When I started down this rabbit hole I researched others to get some ideas.

I saw the rose gold below in Singapore. Enamel on guilloche is pretty much the thing for these. Ironically I ended up going for a very neutral theme - not at all like the high enamel finish 🤣 ...

They made a great fuss about the watches being one of a kind

and many simply were not. That swindle, Christies’s last failures Dubai, Only Watch, Passion for time with its trickery, a general bearish watch market, the previous year story of Mr Getreide not wanting to part with its lifetime collection, the doubts on...

I guess if you do enough overtly sketchy things, it catches up with you...

Watch collecting community is pretty small too, so I guess this was bound to happen.

That only watch montblanc went really cheap

Possibly not just the market itself, but also fallout from the last christies watch auction and the only watch 2023 disaster. I‘m interested to see the results of sothebys upcoming important watches auction.

+1

My go to idea here has been

a serviced Explorer 1016 or GMT 1675.
