Type vs. manufacturer

Feb 25, 2014,13:27 PM

Thank you Bruno for this compulsive lesson in history. The watch looks literally great!

Interesting, that Swiss companies delivered watches and components to Germany even during WW II. Truth be told, as Swiss citizen I'm not surprised (please excuse if I violate the rules, but I couldn’t resist).

But one question remains: On the type plate the watch-type ("Bauart") is indicated as Lange & Söhne, but the manufacturer ("Hersteller") is Felsing at Berlin. Do you have any explanation for that (wartime economy, outsourced work bench)?

Best

Stefan R.

Super watch, by all meanings. Bravo, Bruno.

I saw several, each time tempted to get one, but on the wrist, the " generous " dimensions are way too much for ME. I am a bit jealous... Best, Nicolas

Wow !

A truly great write up, and a fascinating history lesson. Just as this watch list in 2005/6, so it enters mine today. An extremely jealous Dean says congratulations !

Indeed, there were 4 of them. The 'Luftwaffe' needed so many watches that Lange could not make them. that's why Wempe, IWC, Stowa and Laco were also asked to make these watches. The watches Lange made ( between 6000 and 7000) was also too much so they nee...

Thank you for you lovely post This is the nicest A. Lange & Söhne A-dial example and I hope it brings you lots of lasting pleasure. I love the A-dial but Ø 55 mm is a tad large for everyday wear. So...my Archimede Ø 42 mm fills the gap :-) Best, -- Rich...
