Indeed, there were 4 of them. The 'Luftwaffe' needed so many watches that Lange could not make them.
that's why Wempe, IWC, Stowa and Laco were also asked to make these watches.
The watches Lange made ( between 6000 and 7000) was also too much so they needed more help. Lange made all the parts but outsourced them to great German watch makers at that time. The 4 other companies helped with putting the movements together
these are the 4 'helpers'
-Andreas Huber in Berlin
-Alpina Dugena in berlin
- Felsing Berlin
-and again Wempe in Hamburg
I believe production numbers were as follow
Lange between 6000 and 7000 , same for Laco and Stowa. Wempe … no idea but probably the same
IWC …. only a thousand
So in total about 25.000 were made.`Ì would really want to know how many still exist but I have no idea.
I know these were used for the German Army Aircrafts and (almost) always for bombers. In Wikipedia I read that 22.000 of these planes never returned home.
Number of casualties was terrible is that terrible war.
So probably 50 , 60, 70, 80 % of these watches are crashed too and are gone forever.
And what about those that survived … that was 70 years ago. So in these 70 years a lot of others are lost too.
So how many still exist ? 500 ? 1000 ? 2500 ?
Can't be very much but I would love to have an answer
