Are you an optimist when it comes to collecting?

 By: Uncle Chico : April 6th, 2024-15:18
My gym membership recently was due for renewal. I had the option of selecting either a two or one year membership. Having previously survived two separate cancer diagnosis, installation of a pacemaker and a bout of sepsis for a staph infection, I asked my...

Sorry to hear that

I’d really hope people don’t. Why is six months of joy worth any less than six years?

Enjoy life to the fullest!

I can't say I ever think of life expectancy with anything (benefits of being relatively young still). Regardless I would use the same mentality - if it something you'd enjoy go for it, if not make it a pass. I even am beginning to realize collecting to ha...

My wife told me if I live through my advanced cancer, she will buy me any watch I want.

Knowing she needs me (and any watch I want!), makes going through this seem like something I can and will live through. Also, my 2nd Frodsham is 9 years away and I am absolutely going to live to see that on my wrist.

Spangles, i'm enjoying your posts here and on other forums for such a long time.

I'm really sorry reading this. I will think about you a lot - maybe you could give some sort of update from time to time. I need your humor here. All the best!

The short answer regarding life expectancy is . . .

. . . yes, but my watchmaker's, not mine. ...

Well, there is the issue of "who enjoys it next"

That's the optimist view. The pessimist view is "you left me to deal with all this stuff?" I can only refer you to collectors who are still collecting up until the end. It's not 'stuff' to them, it's joy. We did a walk the other day of a giant house and p...

How long one lives it’s totally unpredictable.

But what makes me happy, is live in the moment because tomorrow is not guaranteed and more so, live with no regrets!!! I had a couple of near death situations in my youth and each and every time when I was close to the end the same thought struck me, “ I ...

Wish you and yours many happy long years of health, happiness and collecting.

And I do think collecting is here to stay , It may change its faces, habbits but there are so many of Gen X Y Z etc who got into it, I see no other way

One more thing, apply for everyone

You must educate your significant other to not sell your watches at the prices you told them you paid..... otherwise, buyers will be very happy....

This is very important...

...I have a god friend with a fantastic collection of special pieces. I told him to tell his wife to consult with me before selling anything should something happen to him. She knows about the watches but doesn't know what he paid for them : )

So my question is, do you ever think about your life expectancy when deciding to add something to your collection? How long I have left to live has little bearing on whether I will add anything or not. If it’s something that I would love to experience bef...

I choose the maximum! There is hope as long as you still kicking.

Watch collection wise, through I dun own any PP but buy what I like regardless of brands as long as it represents something imo as well as being kind to my wallet. I still can pass it to my kiddos tomorrow if I am not around. They can sell it or let it ro...

Thats the million dollar question i guess.

Its something i think about two as i have a friend that will loose the battle with cancer any minute now after being diagnosed with it only a few months ago. But as i always say: You only die once and live every day ..

More a realist..

As in what can I really enjoy given present circumstance which includes health, age, finances, tastes, etc. At some point I won’t be able to enjoy everything that there is to enjoy about any hobby which includes photography so I am glad I lived my life to...
