The process of finishing this black roman dial is rather complicated and the dial is not just lacquered

The process of applying the black color on the dial is a rather long and complicated lacquering process. Before applying the first layer of lacquer, the the German silver plate of the dial is mirrorpolished first. From what I know, the whole process is supposed to be similar to the creation of the blue Francois Paul Journe Chronometre Bleu dial.
After the high polish, the first layer of black lacquer is applied. After every application of lacquer, it is high polished again. This is repeated at least several times, I do not know yet how many times exactly, I assume they are keeping this an industry secret. Finally, after the deep black shine has been applied, there will be a clear coat applied to the dial to preserve it best.
This whole process gives the dial a depth which is quite rare. I will be visiting Moritz Grossmann soon again and once I am there, I will shoot plenty of pictures of this watch.
Stay tuned.
