News: the new black dial Moritz Grossmann vintage logo Hamatic with automatic winding hammer mechanism
Aug 03, 2020,13:51 PM
Hi fellow watchenthusiasts and watchlovers,
here comes the latest from Moritz Grossmann in Glashütte in Germany. Moritz Grossmann introduced the Hamatic in 2018/9 as far as I recall. It took them about 2-3 years of developing this unique and rare mechanism they call Hamatic. Basically, this is an automatic winding mechanism based on an old pocketwatch from Abraham Louis Breguet in the 19th century. The hammer swings from left to right and back, and just a short move creates a significant powerreserve already. When Moritz Grossmann presented the first prototype, it had an open dial and the first time I held it in my hands, it unfortunately didnt work properly. So they went back to the drawing board and the developers had to improve the system. The final system however is highly efficient. The watch has been in the market for nearly 2 years I think and came with a white roman dial and modern logo. This new timepiece now comes with a black roman dial and vintage logo. It looks like a class act, very dressy and elegant and timeless. With a back that is to die for.
Moritz Grossmann was one of four significant German watchmakers in the 19th century, together with Adolf Lange. There are even pocketwatches with double signatures on the dial of both of them. In addition, Moritz Grossmann was mayor of Glashütte and significantly influenced the success of Glashütte, a former mining town, as the watchmaking hub in Germany. He also wrote books on watchmaking, his most famous probaly about a "simple yet mechanically perfect watch". That is the philosophy, Moritz Grossmann adheres to nowadays. And I believe in the case of this new Hamatic, they have proven their point.
I will write about another new watch presentation tomorrow. Have a great day.
