If you apply that logic to Cartier, which started out in 1847 as a jeweler, there would be no Tank watch. Apple woulld not have done the iphone, or iTunes, Sony, which started out doing transister radio's would be what it is today. Ralph Lauren has always been passionate about watches, and has collected them for years. He is not interested in producing watches just for profit as some fashion designer's have done. He is interested in making fine, quality time pieces that reflect the aesthetic of the brand.

The problem with fashionista brands
is the emphasis on pushing the name rather than let the fashion do the talking. It could have been worse, and I think they used remarkable restraint.
