Gramp's old watch
I first became interested in mechanical watches when I played with my late grandfather's non-functioning manually wound watch movement that had popped out of its case. I don't recall what brand it was (as I was ~8 years old) but I remember be very taken by the spinning balance wheel. It would stop after a minute - still, my interest was piqued. It seemed like magic that a spring & balance wheel could tell time at all.
By my teens, I had set my eyes on an Omega Seamaster - victim of ads, perhaps
I bought my first mechanical Seiko in my early twenties and then finally a Speedmaster a few years later. Perhaps Gramps might be smiling down at my latest addition - a hand-wound JLC Reverso GMT.

My first mechanical watch was a Seiko Kinetic in the year 1993-4, i think... Still did not pay too much attention to that... once I saw the Lange 1, it was love and thats how the horology bug has bitten me, and I never looked back since... Cheers, GG

. . . and I can pinpoint the actual moment, when I first caught glimpse of a complicated watch - probably a triple-date with moonphase, possibly an Omega - on a relative's dresser. I would've been six at the time . . .

Is when I first started to recognize a nice watch. Something I picked up from my father. Was not until college that I saved up for my first "real" watch (omega speed master). Not until the past few years did I start studying watches.

.. I have always been fascinated by watches. I remember one of my first "proper" watches was the Mickey Mouse with the arms as hour/minute hands (It was a knock-off, NOT a Gerald Genta!). I had a few Casio/Citizen digital watches during my school years, a...
