dose anyone refer to manual winding watches as "mechanical automatics"?

I bought a watch off of eBay and the guy listed it as a "mechanical automatic" chronograph. I expected it to be a automatic winding watch, but it was a manual wind up chronograph. I contacted the guy and told him about it, he responded like this:
"For what it's worth, in my circle of watch friends and jewelers, we refer to manual winding watches as "mechanical automatics".There are many people at the Basel watch fair that refer to manual winding watches as "mechanical automatics".  You're not telling anything I don't already know about watches. I've been in and around the watch business for 25 years, and I know my stuff, that's why I get invited to Basel"
Am I confused or is he?
