2020: the first year as a „collector“ in which I‘ve sold more watches than I‘ve bought. Feels good.

Since I‘ve seen a lot of members doing an horological recap of the year 2020, I now did my own. I‘ve always been bad at selling watches I didn‘t wear anymore. Most of the time, I ended up trading them in for another watch, which didn’t help in reducing th...

Not easy at all :-)

I sold and bought 0 watches in 2020 I was too busy with work actually My plan is to reduce my collection to around 20 watches. And there are a few I would like to buy to that 20 So I need to part with around 25-30 watches.... Last one I sold was in 2019. ...

Nicely done!

I did the same, I liquidated nine and I have two left, one or max two to add. And same as you, I’m totally happy, no regrets!

I admire you...

Been thinking for 2 years now I should sell some pieces. Managed to sell precisely zero. Part of it is me still loving even the pieces I don‘t wear, another part is I have no idea how I should sell. WPS Market? C24? An AD? I‘m really lost here... Any advi...

Well, as I'm not a collector of Rolex or PP Nautilus or such, the biggest step to sell some of my watches was to admit to myself, that the market value for these watches is often below the subjective value I attributed to them.

Once I got to that point, it was just a task like any other to sell the watches. It's easier said than done, as I have to get to that point for every single watch on its own :-D Sounds stupid, but in the end selling them made me so happy, that I forgot ab...

That’s wise advice, nafetS

Thanks a lot. I guess I‘ll go on that journey this year.

Thank you Echi. Seems like I‘m getting ready for a New Year’s resolution 😄

.. which is something I really don’t do, as I always think if you want to do something, do it right away. As they say: old dog new trick! Thanks, Daniel

Take your time. Start with selling just one or two watches. Gain experience how to do it. It's a better feeling to sucessfully sell one watch, than to unsuccessfully try to sell 5 watches.

I even drank a bottle of champagne with my girlfriend after selling one of my watches, that was difficult to sell. Didn't drink a bottle of champagne after my last purchase. Strange world, haha.

Very brave move my friend.

Consolidation.

Perhaps a new trend? During the last 13 months I managed to separate from 6 watches (1 Patek, 1 JLC, 1 GP, 2 Panerai and 1 Longines) but also has a hefty income of 4 watches (2 IWC, 1 Moser, 1 Panerai). Not a very admirable ratio but - for me - an importa...

Yes, that is the challenge. 😊

But I have also to admit that unfortunately I have also bought watches in the past that I wasn't one hundred percent convinced of at the beginning and that I “talked myself into” intellectually. That doesn't happen to me anymore. ;-) Best Thomas

I had three of those in 2020 and will try not to let that happen again!

Not that they were not great watch, but I was not 100% in at purchase (Tudor BB bronze, Rolex OP yellow and Coral Red!!!) - all three are now gone

That‘s true. ;-)

But to be honest, it's less of a burden for me to upgrade the quality (and price) than to have too many watches that I don't wear and that are lying around in the safe because I no longer like them 100 percent or have never liked them 100 percent. 😊

Well said!

2020 was a non existent year for me

In pruning the collection throughout 18/19 I got to where I wanted to be, alas a change in circumstances in late 19 meant further cuts were required. 2021 is the start of the rebuild with my famous five as the foundation I will likely now turn to cheaper ...

20what? :)
