Counter argument, vw greenlighted the bugatti reboot and estimated loss per car was almost 5mil eur for the Veyron, so one may argue that with the right board public companies can still make bold move and please enthusiasts in the process (shareholders may not agree).

Joke aside, a thought provoking write-up. At the end of the day I have seen both sides of the mirror, privately owned can also mean rigidity and lack of creativity so that alone is not a recipe for success.
