This is not an insight into Eastern or Asian culture. One should not assume the musings of one equals that of another much less that of a region. I'm also not too sure you are right on your generalization of showing off wealth in eastern and western culture. There are blatant showoffs in both cultures, one not necessarily being more than the other.
