My thoughts...
Honestly this looks like the first time Hodinkee really sidestepped on this one. I admit that I am sucker for "UBC" (useless but cool) items and when I see something like this my first reaction is; "OK, how much would I pay for this and how do I get this past my wife..." Then I take a look at the price and compare if my perception of that items value is close or not. Well, being signed by Mark Newson (fellow I only know of his existance thanks to Jaeger-LeCoultre by the way) and there are only 100... what the hell, I'll go nuts and spend 600 on it! Now, let's look at the price... 12K!!! My first reaction was to look at the calendar in case it was April... the laughter... a lot of laughter... then incredulity.
Now to the item in question; Yes it looks cool, but after you play with it for half a dozen times it will likely be just another dust collector on a shelf if your kids did not reach for it and the whole things explodes on your living room flor. There is absolutelly no value increase in this item unlike an ATMOS even if signed by Mark Newson. These sell at a heavy discount by the way...
To be honest, if Hodinkee pul this of and sell the lot I want to buy shares in that company because they are the absolute best seller on the net hands down.

the price is crazy..and would never buy something like that but...
I think the original hour glass from Newson was at the same price range... this item did not sell at all I think because now they say "from 6000$" which is just a deposit..so a bit misleading as the price is not 6000$..very weird really. I guess they don'...
