There is a difference between the color of the dial and the date disc background. The materials used respectively are inherently different. Whether the effect produced is objectionable or not would be a matter of personal judgement.
I think I understand your point, and it is well taken. My perspective isn't the same, but what matters is yours. I don't think anyone would suggest acquiring a watch which was deemed flawed in a fundamental sense by the potential owner.
