There is huge confusion out there even amongst dealers re these two models. I would say 60-70% of dealers have the new 40' down with the ref number of the old XL. The dealer I bought off did and my warranty card even has the old XL ref on it LOL.
I think you did the right thing with the new version, I prefer the newer versions, mainly due to the time dial... the older versions seems more cluttered, whereas the new one you bought oozes class. And the thinner bezel suits it better imho. Beautiful ti...
...that is the easiest way to differentiate them. One exception is the new Panoinverse XL, which can be differentiated by the thinner bezel, albeit not easily.
