Finally, my first Gyromatic!
Feb 02, 2024,06:18 AM
despite the very bad Images on ebay I decided to give it a shot, and I think for the price I did quite well.
First the only negative point - there is an extremely big and deep scratch on the side of the case:
But now on to the positives - the dial is in very, very good condition and it still has the original signed crown as well as the original plexi with the date magnifier:
Have I already mentioned how coool the blue printing on the date disc is?
Now I have 2 options with it:
- Bring it to my local watch maker to perform only a movement service and cleaning of the case
- Bring it to Vienna to my expert watchmaker who is a real artist and can perform astonishing restorations on old timepieces. He could
- Service the movement
- Relume the Hands
- Laser weld the scratches and do some work on the lapping machine to remove the scratches and restore the original factory finish
But the work at the expert would cost nearly 3 times as much, I´m still torn on that to do. Normally I´m on team "only movement service and cleaning with no polishing work", but the deep scratch on the case flank is bothering me a bit. I will think it over and gladly take advice from you guys.
No matter how I will decide - I´m thrilled to have found an all-original condition (except the buckle and strap) Gyromatic with a very well-preserved dial, I think this will take a special place in my collection.
Best Regards,
Clemens
