Black Laureato Ti 230 inbound today

Nov 23, 2021,13:50 PM

So I was originally interested in the 42mm 3-hand laureato, many flavors appeal to me, and stopped by Wempe in NYC to see in person.  While there, the salesman showed me several of the absolute line and this Ti230 in black really appealed to me, in a very different way.

I certainly think the regular laureato (I’m especially interested in the infinity) is the classic, versatile, and just kind of ‘everything’ choice, but the absolute just had this sexy, fun, a little aggressive take that my collection very much had nothing comparable to, and both times I visited to see it in person I got that same “yes” feeling.

For people ruling out the watch because it’s 44mm, it wears smaller width wise, something about the thick bezel and thus smaller dial, and the curvature of the lugs… I own two 43mm watches that wear much bulkier on the wrist.

It IS very thick, but I actually think that’s part of its wrist presence… it’s very 3-dimensional in a fun way, and the fume dial exaggerates it’s depth even more so.

The strap/clasp are incredibly impressive btw, had never seen anything quite like it.

One thing I didn’t like was learning (after the purchase), that the movement is not the larger, longer power reserve one from the Laureato 42, but the smaller one from the laureato 38 (and many other GP’s).  Seems like the wrong fit for this watch, though I know a proven, reliable manufacturer calibre of course deserving of respect.

Ultimately this watch was a bit of an impulsive buy, and not that versatile, but I have a collection full of watches that are really refined, have great movements, just the right size, etc, but this watch got me excited in completely different ways.

Can’t wait to have it delivered today.

Spotted this new release: Laureato Absolute Titanium

 By: Cookies : August 3rd, 2021-15:25
I think they’ve got right. What do you think? Here are my justifications: 1) Grade 5 (not Grade 2) titanium 2) Symmetry of dial (date is at 6 o’clock) 3) Sandwich dial indices 4) Proprietary rubber strap with micro-adjusters 5) High water resistance for a...

Interesting release from GP

Can we say this is some kind of "time only RO Offshore" cousin? I like it and the dial seems quite elaborate. Rubber strap makes sense and keeps price acceptable. Solid execution anyways! Anyways, size makes it too large for me - 44mm and 14.7mm height

Yes indeed I fully agree

 By: Cookies : August 3rd, 2021-15:39
My wrist is too small for a 44mm. If they did a 40-42mm it will be goldilocks size for smaller wristed chaps like me. Not to forget, with these rubber straps, they arch out a little, making a 44mm even larger to wear.

Too bad they are limited edition 🙄

Yes 230 pieces each I’ve read

Should sell out quite quickly, due to the small numbers. Which colour do you prefer?

Black for me 👍

Same here

looks nice if not their version of the offshore diver

 By: Dchang81 : August 3rd, 2021-15:43
would consider if they discount a decent amount.

Could be a likelihood yes

 By: Cookies : August 3rd, 2021-15:54
Hehe

Yes now that you’ve mentioned it

 By: Cookies : August 3rd, 2021-15:54
I cannot unsee it. Haha. They mentioned the blue version is selling at Wempe initially. I think the Germans have got larger bone structures, they can wear this size better. I’ll just wait for a smaller version of this. The value proposition is spot on for...

Ouch that hurts

but true indeed. Someone at GP must be crying now if they read your post

Absolutely beautiful

My thoughts are positive. But i have also questions. Is it a thick watch? How is the strap attachment?

14.65 mm

deployant.com

Oh it’s quite thick

 By: Cookies : August 3rd, 2021-16:47
Almost as thick as a standard blackbay 41mm. Thickness is an important overlooked factor.

Great answer.

 By: Weems@8 : August 3rd, 2021-16:59
Overlooked factor. Personally, a watch haven’t be an Altiplano or Octo Finissimo. Ultra thin is not a preference for me, albeit a chunky watch which hobble on my wrist is not quite perfect. Let’s say, 14 mm is the maximum of the hight. 10mm is good.

Interesting release

No regrets on mine. But not Titanium. Geross. ...

Sweet!!

 By: Cookies : August 4th, 2021-11:44

I like the direction

 By: jpd : August 4th, 2021-01:28
...and that they are in titanium, though the size is unfortunately too large for me. Am still very happy with this one though 😉 ...

I think this is among the best looking version

 By: Cookies : August 4th, 2021-11:44
The lume is so nice. I contemplated between this and the infinito at the store, but took the infinito instead, yet the lume of this piece still haunts me. I prefer the 38mm version.

Thanks much

 By: jpd : August 5th, 2021-06:50
Mine is in fact the 38mm version as I have pretty small wrists…

I saw this monster the other day when I was getting a bracelet.

Looks similar in term of the design. ...

Nice but too bulky

 By: Cookies : August 4th, 2021-05:02
It is a monster indeed. I reckon one needs a larger wrist to wear this well.

Who celebrates 230th???

Seems a sign of anxiety trying to get more products out...they make nice watches and very reliable movements but unfortunately under appreciated.

Indeed, what u say is true

 By: Cookies : August 4th, 2021-17:47
230 is a strange anniversary. They seem to be at a challenging cross-road now: 1) Branch into creating too many products that confuse and dilute the main line 2) Stay focused on tried and true products, keeping their product lineages pure I hope they keep...

kind of reminds me of seiko

anniversary for anything

just tried one on, looks great
