Why is it so hard to photograph a Havana?

This is a gorgeous watch in person... ...

I find often the hue of color to be off when taking picture with our phones - this is especially true indoor for skin tone like color

I think a proper camera setup where the white balance can be corrected in post in Lightroom for example could provide a better representation of what your eye sees when you wear it...hoping that make any sense to you guys...my two cents

Some people may not realize this but there are a lot of corrections available in the iPhone camera app.

Just hit the edit button of any picture and you can make a lot of corrections.

True but most people just want to set everything on auto and shoot

In my case, I have a Pixel phone with only basic settings and choices.

good point i have to give it a try but last time i did use it it is of course less flexible then what one could do with lightroom and a traditional camera setup

...i say this and yet I keep using my iphone instead of my camera to shoot - go figure!

I was a professional photographer for 40 years and I shoot all my watches and most stuff these days with my iPhone.

I just don't feel like dragging everything into other mediums. The problem with this picture is it's mostly glare/reflection from the ceiling, and you only really see the deep brown where the reflection of the iPhone is on the bottom part of the dial. To ...

good observation! I am embracing the one medium for watch picture with my iPhone and I have ordered a third party macro lens to try with it

That is the only thing I did not yet figure out - how to do great macro with my phone...

Not too bad

But generally the phone cameras have to many auto filters to get colors right. I often notice this. Contrast tends to get exaggerated and grey tones generally represented too dark. The Havana dials are really lovely. But.... Is this yours? 😀

Yes, my second FPJ 😉

It's the US embargo

What is?

Sorry, that was a joke

It would be hard for me to photograph Havana because I'm from the US and there's an embargo of Cuba.

I agree with the others above, rarely does this dial get presented accurately in the photos we post. Might be a good thing, it'll keep some folks away from it !!!!

One thing I love about this watch, which was something that drew me to the CB originally too, is the hands and that colour. Thanks for sharing.

Balancing the dial

Having shot the Havana with my leica and iPhone, the combo of the crystal and the dial don’t always gel. There is a longer, but likely very boring bit of color theory that speaks to why. ...

Nice shots Adam!

Maybe because you’re not in Cuba.

It’d be a lot easier if you were a lot closer.
