LineSport Rubber Replacements

Sep 12, 2020,17:19 PM

I had a recent friendly exchange regarding rubber strap replacements for FPJ’s older LineSport models, with some having the understanding that OEM straps were no longer available from the brand. However, I obtained a new rubber strap for my Octa Sport a few months ago. Although it wasn’t available on the spot at the boutique, they were able to order one for me from the manufacture and I did indeed get one.

But beyond just me getting my strap, I wanted to hear others’ thoughts on the longevity of the rubber-clad FPJ models. Although it was not in line with my experience and understanding, the notion of the unavailability of a rubber part (whether the strap, bumpers, or crown) provoked some thought.

On the one hand, I don’t know where a relatively small brand like FPJ will be in 30 years and if they will still be stocking what are essentially disposable parts for long-discontinued models. But on the other hand, respect for the collector is of paramount importance to the brand and to Mr. Journe himself; this intimacy is one among many things that sets them apart from other brands that crank out higher production numbers. As such, while I think there is some realism to be accepted regarding the relatively short lifespan of a rubber part, I find it hard to believe that FPJ would let their older models essentially become obsolete, and so quickly after they are discontinued.

This same discussion could be had regarding Elegante movements as well, with quartz being less durable than mechanical movements but being something that Mr. Journe clearly believes in and is here to stay.

What are your thoughts?

How can i order one? I contacted the boutique and told it is discontinued.

The only thing I can recommend is going back to the boutique and clarifying that you know you can’t get it right there in the store and instead you’re looking for them to order it from Switzerland.

Other than that, I’m as confused as you are—I went through a boutique to get mine. Due to the unique construction, I’ve never seen an aftermarket strap made in rubber, though I’d love to see it happen someday in another color, perhaps in red.

Thank you very much

I hope they know to stock enough parts for the next 50 years or offer a replacement if not available. These are not disposable watches. A high value watch needs support for many years. Also, I hope the cost of these parts will not be prohibitve. That bein...

i've no specific thoughts...except i want to highlight a fact - for rubber parts/straps, there is a shelf life

so you can't store it over certain period after which they're brittle. Best, mahesh.,

I will try to look into it.

I have very limited time this coming week so it may take a while before I get back with what I can find out.

No worries. I’m happy to do so.

It just may take some time 😊

... and Journe talks about longevity and maintainability

So Journe arrogantly waxes about no silicon so his watches can be serviced in hundreds of years but can’t easily support a new strap for recent production. This is a joke

Definitely not cool [nt]
