In a world often characterized by expansive collections, j_yellowg presents a compelling argument for the 'one-watch' philosophy, particularly for a daily wearer. This article explores j_yellowg's journey from vintage Rolex to the F.P. Journe Octa Sport ARS2, highlighting the practical considerations and personal satisfaction derived from a singular, robust timepiece. Their experience offers a valuable perspective for collectors contemplating quality over quantity.
Hi everyone,
Iām a one-watch collector, mainly for financial reasons. Iād rather own one great watch than juggle four lesser pieces on rotation.
Over ten years ago, I started exploring vintage watchesāfirst with the usual Universal GenĆØve chronographs, and eventually I landed on a 1970s Rolex 1675/8 on its full yellow gold bracelet.
It was an exciting journey, but as a one-watch collector, wearing a fragile vintage gold piece every single day became a bit stressful.
Thatās why I began looking for a sturdier daily wearer that could still excite my wrist. That search led me to the F.P. Journe Octa Sport, which I just purchased. I have to blame (š) Jay (Eire) and his C and CTS for getting me hooked on super-light daily wearers.
Iām really enjoying itāwearing it seven days a weekāand Iām just as happy to have joined this forum.
Thanks for reading, and I look forward to learning more from all of you!

NB: Technically, I have this Swatch Grand Prix too, but Iām not counting it as a āproperā watch here

The F.P. Journe Centigraphe Souverain represents the brand s approach to chronograph complications within the Souverain collection. This reference features the specialized caliber 1506 movement and carries the distinctive Centigraphe designation, positioning it as F.P. Journe s chronograph offering in their manual-winding lineup.
The 40mm case is crafted from 18k rose gold and fitted with a sapphire crystal. The silver dial provides the backdrop for the chronograph functions. The manual-winding caliber 1506 movement delivers an 80-hour power reserve. Water resistance is rated to 30 meters, and the watch is completed with a leather strap. The fixed bezel maintains clean proportions around the case perimeter.
This reference appeals to collectors seeking F.P. Journe s interpretation of chronograph mechanics in precious metal construction. Production began in 2007, establishing this as part of the contemporary F.P. Journe catalog. The Centigraphe attracts those interested in independent watchmaking combined with traditional manual-winding chronograph complications, offering substantial power reserve within the 40mm rose gold case format.
Congratulations š¾!
As we discussed, if oneās lifestyle allows it then this is a perfect daily watch. So happy to see you settled on something and then had the conviction to go for it. Itās most definitely not the āstandardā or āusualā choice, certainly not predictable despite it being a Journe. I also admire the direction of choosing one over four, this too is probably contrary to the direction most of us take or at least took initially. I for one was certainly more comfortable at the time with four lesser value w
I think its a perfect daily and perhaps a perfect one watch to have šš»š¤
I personally appreciate your introduction of yourself. You seem to have thought through your collection philosophy very carefully and I really applaud your conclusion. Most of us have chosen the more obvious path of buying several watches, typically to build up a diversified collection. āA watch for every occasionā. Nothing wrong with that. Itās also the road I took. But now Iām sitting on too many watches and actually feel a greater desire to get rid of watches than to acquire something new. Al
Bold contrasting color watches are not very common, but they are really unique! I always want to take a second look at them. I like this kind of novel watch. Congratulations!
