The watch we love to hate...
Well, okay, perhaps that's an exaggeration. But I do recall that "disappointing" was the initial reaction from many folks who saw the Zeitwerk Striking Time in the metal when it was first introduced last year. Figured I'd take a chance, though ... and it turned out to be a good decision -- zero regrets (and at night, when it's quiet, I can hear its clear, pleasant "ding" from far across the room)!

could you please explain when it chimes..? Is it on the hour, quarters too..? Can it be turned off..? I'd love to know some more about it. Big congrats...what's not to love :) Andy.

It chimes on the quarter hour. The hammer on the right side of the dial strikes its resonator at xx:15, xx:30, and xx:45. The hammer on the left side of the dial strikes its resonator at xx:00. The resonating mechanism on the right produces a higher pitch...

... than a Petite Sonnerie, because it strikes only once on the hour. It does not strike the number of hours on the hour. From a practical, functional perspective, this is WONDERFUL, because the single chime is noticeable without being disruptive or distr...

It's really not my thing -- seems a lot of work for the occasional "dit" or "dot." Seems you find it appealing, though -- which is all that matters! If we all liked the same pieces the world would be a boring place indeed... Best, Gary G
