The new Ploprof

Yesterday, I met a friend of a french forum who is a very proud owner of the new Ploprof, the Seamaster 1200.

He is a very happy guy with his new watch and I understood why.

The new Ploprof belongs to the long list of reeditions of vintage watches we have seen the last years.

The good point is that Omega kept the spirit of the original version even if the key feature of the Seamaster 600, the monobloc case is not used anymore.

The watch is huge (55 x 48mm) and thick (17,5 mm) but this size is totally coherent with the very particular design.

The new version takes advantage of the modern industrial processes and of some innovations.

The caliber used is the coaxial in-house 8500. The date window is located at 4:30 which is a difference with the original.

The finishings of the case are really impressive but the point which impressed me a lot is the mesh bracelet. It is comfortable and easily adjustable. The way it slides to adjust it gives us the proof of the overall quality of the watch. I recommend to buy the watch with this bracelet for two reasons:
- its finishings
- its weight which balances the case weight. Because with another strap, you will have the feeling that all the weight is located into the case and the watch would appear to be less comfortable. Don't forget that the watch is very heavy.

Please note that the crown protection system is different from the Seamaster 600 one and that the helium escape valve is located at 4 o'clock.

To sum up my feelings in a few words, I really love this watch because it is original and absolutely non-reasonable. Thick, heavy, strange... but attractive. A watch has to arouse strong reactions of love or hate. A not so bad watch is not interesting.

I'm not a fan of the modern Omega, of the current collection. Because I really think they lack some personnality. This Ploprof has not this trouble. Omega and that's my point of view, managed to keep the spirit of the original version and to improve it.
