Special occasions
Sometimes we buy watches to mark a special occasion like an anniversary or birthday. Other times it can mark another type of significant event.
Back in 2013 I was hospitalized for 3 days for a serious acute medical condition. I don’t think the doctors thought I was going to make it. Neither did I for that matter.
But thanks to God and some brilliant treatment from the primary physician on my case I survived.
Around the same time I got out of the hospital the Panerai SE PAM 532 Tribute to “Paneristi Forever” in a PVD’d modern 6154 case was announced pretty much by surprise. I recall a lot folks over at
Paneristi.com were miffed since they didn’t get a chance to “call the shots” on the watch design nor were the usual watch flippers prepared for it! Its relatively high price compared to previous Paneristi-themed watches didn’t endear it to the flippers either.
Luckily for me this meant many of the usual suspects who always get an advantage on the opportunity to buy SE’s ahead of everyone else passed on the watch. I was able to get one from the NY Boutique by putting down a deposit.
I love the modern 6154 case as it is thin compared to the case on the 662 for example. Ironic considering Richemont Panerai marketed the 662 as an homage to the original vintage 6154. The 3-day manual wind movement, no-date of course but with a running sub-seconds hand and finally the PVD treatment and a solid caseback round out the features.
I bought the watch as a gift to myself for still being alive! As it marks this milestone in my life it will be the last Panerai I’ll ever sell...if I ever have to!
