Short Sky Dweller review
I received my blue sky dweller one week ago and had to warm up with it for some days. Why? Well, first I did not expect it to come, so it was a surprise and also a quick follow-up after my GMT TT had arrived some weeks earlier, which I had not digested fully. Second, as it came on the jubilee bracelet and not on oyster. Third, because its appearance (dial layout and height) differ totally from other Rolex pieces in my collection.
So it was not love at first sight (as with my TT GMT a few weeks before), but I it was ordered so I surely bought it. And had to get used to it.... I am now midway through that process and appreciate the functions and form of the sky dweller more than a week ago.
The blue of the dial is amazing as it changes between light blue to black blue but mostly shows a deep blue. The annual calendar is a nice complication but with so many watches I doubt that I will make full use of it - the advantage is a very easy way to set the calendar. The layout of the dial with the second time zone ring is a sight I still have to get used to, but as it is different to other dials this also makes it special.
I am extremely happy about the jubilee bracelet in the meantime - it works so well with the bezel and it is my first jubilee, so I am glad now that it came this way and not on oyster as i had hoped for!! The only thing that still "bothers" me is that the watch is pretty top-heavy due to the big case. When handling it the first day it rotated and slipped of my fingers and fell into my watch box, hitting the polished bezel of my OP with its fluted bezel. Luckily no problem as my OP has become a beater and the sky dweller took no harm. But here I have to take more care as it is not as balanced as other timepieces....
Not my most favorite Rolex yet, but surely a piece good for any collection and a serious Rolex dress watch (next to my platinum DD40).
Have a nice Sunday!
