Seiko / Grand Seiko
Greetings all,
Since I just returned from vacation in Japan, I was just wondering what the Purists think of Seiko/Grand Seiko mechanical watches.
I , personally, am quite impressed. Judging from what I have seen and from the one that I own, the mid to high end Seiko/Grand Seiko watches seem to be pretty well made with reasonable well-finished movements, good design and build quality. I am also aware that the Seiko brand image is diluted by the lower end quartz watches.
So I am hoping you guys could indulge me and share some of your thoughts and views on Seiko/Grand Seiko as a watch brand for purists and how it compares with the Swiss and German brands. It would also be interesting to know how many here would not touch a mechanical Seiko/Grand Seiko because of its brand image being a brand that has a huge production quantity (many of which are quartz) and the fact that it is not Swiss/German.

I have the same model as Rei but in white dial. Got it from Hong Kong in 2009 and it is really keeping very good time. It does not feel cheap at all and i look forward to see the new Hi-Beat in flesh.

Moses, you will find that there is a growing community here...
in regards to the GSs. I have the SBGM003 and just love it. I wear it more than any other piece, even more than my Patek. The craftsmanship will rival most high-end manufacturers, Swiss or other wise. Do post some pictures! Aloha, Bob
