Patek Philippe Automatic Perpetual Calendar ref 3448.
I finally had the opportunity to see the 3448 in the flesh!
I will not review the watch, Joe did it very well here:
I will just say a few things about it:
- An historical reference, as it is the first automatic perpetual calendar from Patek, released in 1962.
- A generous size, with its 37, 5 mm, which wears bigger in the reality.
- A charismatic dial.
- A superb case, which blends elegance and strength with its large bezel and its angular lugs.
And of course, a couple of pictures I could take during the lunch I had with its owner.
What more can I say? It is always special and intense to be able to see such a watch. A watch you will not see every day, that's for sure.
A watch which looks much nicer and much more interesting in the metal than on pictures.
Thanks to its owner for having let me handle it for a few minutes. It really made my day.

it enamel dial? Is it the one what should/could just the factory set properly due to the lack of LYI? Really like it ,the thinner case makes the difference comparing to its newly released interpretation.

No, it is not an enamel dial...BUT, the moonphase is enamelled. The 3450 saw the LYI added, but in doing so added a porthole top the dial which (for me) spoils the symmetry of the dial. Once the watch is set correctly, then it doesn't need to be reset by ...

no like the fine details this piece treasures.I was aware once set no more molesting should be involved but it requires some awarness from the owner to keep it winded all the time however i think it s just a problem if you neglect the date it was ran dow...

....it only becomes a problem if it is left for years. I put mine in the safe and left it there for 4 monhs. When I took it out, it was very simple to alter the date to the correct one because I knew which year it was. If i had left it for several years.....
i wished it wasn't the case.....
.....but a porthole really upsets the aesthetic for me. Only one watch I like it on...... 5650G. On that, it has two symmetrically-placed portholes that enhance because they are intrinsic to the complication. But single portholes don't work for me.
