Mind vs Heart (another try)
Hello Everyone,
I have wanted to add a 5960 for a number of years to my humble Patek collection (5146J slate, 5135P). However, I didn't want to pay gray dealer premium and there was limited supply at AD. Well I figured times have changed giving individuals a chance to get nice watches at reasonable prices. I was all set to purchase a 5960P for many reasons: Cool sophistication, first patek automatic chrono, several practical complications making it an excellent daily wearer.
However, I wanted to look at the rose version as well. Perhaps that was a mistake. The photos do not do it justice as the watch is amazing. The silver dial tones down the rose case just enough to be spectacular. But its still a bit too blingy for my practical side. It really becomes more of a dress watch, rather than a daily wearer.
So, have any of you faced such a situation where your practical mind points one way and the heart points another. How did you approach it and come to a decision?

Let your wrist be the referee
From what I read and see in your post, the Platinum version is made for you. Its understated elegance is a big pro. I begin to appreciate it more and more. The danger with the RG, again from what I read, is that you get tired of this first appeal.... IMO,...

The Platinum version is more homogeneous. You can wear it with a suit or during the end of the week. Fr.Xavier

And your wrist, as Nicolas said. Buy the one you are going to wear, whether that's the one that appeals to heart or mind. (And let us all know which one that is! ) Best, Jed

Thanks for the thoughtful comments. I'm leaning toward my first opinion in favor of 5960P. I'll post pics when I finally decide.
Plat version my favorite. Maybe it´s the pale tone of my Scandinavian skin...

I agree with you that nothing feels like platinum. I love the heft of my 5135P.
You have doubts about the 5960R, don't get it !
As much as I wanted to like the 5960R when it was launched in Basel it's just "too much" for me, I'm not sure Patek rate their rose gold, but il looks to me like IWC's 5N, like on the Nautilus 5711R, and with that much surface it's just too much.

I actually have been faced with exactly the same dilemma and because of that I have delayed pulling the trigger on a 5960P. A few months after having first seen the RG version, I am worried of getting bored with the RG. I think the color mix is stunning b...

in the same way as you have. I just have to let it settle a bit.
For what it's worth,
I prefer the RG. Also, you should absolutely not have to pay anywhere near list for these references, from an AD or otherwise.

If it's not too late
I'd like to cast my vote in the direction of the 5960R. I own both versions and wear the R much more. It's lighter on an active wrist. I like to wear my watches just a bit loose and the platinum is so big it's unpleasantly heavy during times of more vigor...
You should wait
and take your time to decide, don't buy until you've settled your mind with certainty. Because nothing tortures like the buyer's remorse.
