Mad-Paris watches
I was in discussion with a friend whose sole interest is the watch’s aesthetics. He doesn’t care about the history of the brand, the mechanism and complications, the novelties. He thinks very highly of the Mad Watches store. For those who are not
familiar with it: it’s a store that takes used watches and customizes them (PIMP my watch). So the end product is unique but all warranties from the manufacturer are voided. Also the value of the watch is only in the eye of the beholder. It can go skyrocketing if this one rich person likes it and makes you an offer you can’t refuse. Or your taste is that exotic that you will have a really unique watch and that’s it.

Would anyone of this community dare to give them his watch to do that with it? I personally wouldn’t.
To me a watch should not be unique, the way you wear it makes it this way, hairline scratches make it unique. You’re smile when you wear it does also.
But it should also be sellable in case you grow out of it.

I have no problem with a aftermarket unique watch .
If somebody thinks he need to do this to his watch its fine by me . I have a few ,,unique,, watches , by factory and aftermarket and love them a lot . Will not let them go for a long time because they give me a special feeling when i have them on the wris...

Because i think the watch looks extra special then .
Some watches are special from factory but others just need a little bit of ,,something ,,(like DLC or so) to make it the perfect watch for me . 😉
Of course it's a highly subjective matter, and anyone is free to do whatever makes him happy with his own watches...
However, personally I would *never* let them come anywhere close to one of my watches! Cheers.

If this watch were to get "blacked out" with DLC coating or some other coating, a lot of the curvature will be lost.
Would I customize? Yes. If you don't have the budget for a made to order Kari, or PP for that matter, then why not?
This is not new, people have been doing it for years. The whole Seiko Mod scene is very deep, and those guys come up with some really great looking watches. And that Aquanaut looks great, the Nautilus not so much (I think due to the strap being a better m...

But personally I would never torture even a mass produced PP to make it customized. I would though do it to a Rolex.

Also the price! I would not let anyone play with my aquanaut even if it makes it unique. All of the warranties are voided and the resell value is close to nothing unless you find someone with the same taste and with deep pockets.
It's a lot more palatable to mod a Seiko than a Patek, for most people at least. That's understandable.
I don't think anyone is thinking there is any real resale on these modded pieces, you buy them or make those changes knowing that. Personally I've really like some of the stuff Bamford has done in the past. I wasn't ever convince however that it as worth ...

I felt safe with Rolex because plenty of people can service them even if the warranties were void.
My take on it FWIW.
I just rarely see customizing that is done to anywhere near the level of quality of the original watch (Bamford I'm looking at you). Also, when I see customizing that basically destroys what made that particular watch great, I cringe. Examples: DLC coatin...
It’s another for of engraving.
As Long as the owner intend to keep it, he doesn’t need to worry about resale value.

Engraving is a bit different. It customize the watch without changing the DNA completely.

I did it once on a Rolex and have always regretted doing so. I won't ever do it again. But i can see why some people like it. It isn't for me.

I saw it once on a seller was telling me that it was sitting there for a few years, he tried to make it appealing to me because it fitted my wrist since he didn’t have extra links. I wan’t interested! Best, SAZ

Look, ... if it's your watch you can do whatever you want? I would think, however, that most of the people who enjoy Patek Philippe reference(s) do so because they' are UNDERSTATED?

When you pimp it it will loose it’s charme!
