LUC XP Urushi at Chopard MBS

Was at Chopard Boutique MBS to appreciate some LUC XP Urushi pieces recently and would like to share a few photos and personal thoughts of the pieces I saw.

There were only 5 of the LUC Urushi pieces available in Singapore (presently).

The Horn Dragon, Phoenix Day & Night and Crouching Tiger from the 2009 LUC Urushi Collection were available.  LUC Urushi 2009

I particularly like the Phoenix Day & Night for the contrasting phoenixes.  The Chopard logo did not block either of the beautifully crafted phoenixes.

I was told that the Goldfish was sold (which was not a surprise), else the 2010 LUC Urushi Collection would be a complete one, with the Peacock and the Jungle.  The Peacock was outstanding, particularly its tail.  Unfortunately, the Chopard logo somewhat blocked the peacock’s head.

The caseback of these artistic watches were engraved with the name of “Kiichiro Masumura”, Urushi Master and one of Japan’s National Living Treasures, and “Yamada Heiando”, a purveyor of tableware to the Japanese Imperial Household, with its first lacquerware boutique opened in 1919.

My experience was that it could be a challenge to tell time with these watches as the hands and the maki-e do not contrast.  Of course it didn’t help that each occasion you wanted to look at the time, you found yourself drawn to these captivating dials.  Hope to own one of these pieces, probably the Goldfish, in not too long future.

Thanks to Chopard Singapore, Raj and Mike.
