Living Between Beach and Bay

There are a few neighborhoods on both East and West coasts where you can live on a causeway, spit of land, long isthmus, etc. and essentially be framed by water on both sides. We walked in the midst of one of these areas today. Some "normal" or "original" cottages, simple small homes are sharing the street with new, modern or pseudo-classical homes. Let me stop talking and start walking...

1. Normal home, new windows, nice paint.

2. Same style, original size, original trees.

3. Mexican/Spanish style massively-larger than original

4. Stratford on Avon? Are we in England now?

5. This looks a bit like France to me.

6. I wonder how many people live in this house -- the widest lot and the longest house of the day.

7. Do they have something to hide?

8. I guess some of those horizontal boards might help this stark house

9. A number of homes have gone way up, because from the top they can see both bay and ocean.

10. This is one of my favorites. Clean and crisp lines and colors.

11. Just the way they all used to look, 75-80 years ago.

12. New entry, fancy windows, loud shirt over those old bones.

13. Also covered with wood shakes, but in a more discreet color. Naturally faded, with new pop-up windows.

14. Car pretty much suits this house, I thought. Oddly distracting chimney though.

15. Porches, with an assortment of chairs and benches.

16. I can't believe it's legal to put tall spiky dangerous cacti along the curb / sidewalk gap. Technically that's city property / easement. And I question the wisdom of a dark gray house facing SE where the sun comes up.

17. Looking at all the windows, we think this house has a goofy floor plan. Or at least oddly arranged lighting.

18 Classic SoCal Spanish design with nice detailing and stucco work.

I noticed a number of sea birds flying over us as we walked. Dozens of them, crying loudly to each other.

Time to head back to the car, on a rare afternoon walk.

With only a few short delays to sniff the roses,

and check out a little library that mimics the big house,

then we turned towards the water but had to stop for this unusual sight:

Have a great day and thanks for coming on this gray day.
