Breguet

Breguet Classique Automatic opinions please...

I have always admired the simple understated elegance of the Brequet Classique Automatic (ref: 3980BA/12/286). To me, it is the essence of an elegant dress watch. Having read several articles and posts on this and other sites, I am not sure if the Breguet represents the best value compared to others (PP Calatrava, hobnail bezel, etc.) and remains true to Breguet's horological history.

What is the opinion of others on the board? Is it a relatively mundane movement in a wannabe case or is it true to the Breguet namesake? I have seen most of the watch line at the Brequet botique in NYC as well as several dealers and this model is the most attractive. The inital retail ($12,000) has come down significantly ($9,000).

For me, it has been a toss up between the Brequet and the PP Calatrava -- I prefer the look of the Breguet, but the PP has a world-class heritage. One of these watches will be my 50th birthday present to myself this year and either one will be worn with pleasure.

Thoughts?

Thanks in advance,
Twotone
