Help : Chopard Happy Sport ETA replacement advice needed

Hello all,

My wife's Chopard Happy Sport quartz ETA movement died as a result of a leaking battery :-((((

I am now faced with the challenge and cost of getting this fixed.

Route 1: send it to Chopard for fixing. The watch is out of warrantee so looks like an approx 1000 Euro bill to replace the movement (!)

Route 2: independent watch maker. Tells me he can source the parts but has not confirmed if it will be (has to be) Chopard original. In any case 350-500 Euro repair estimate.

What boggles my mind in this whole story is that we are talking about a (to my knowledge) ETA 955.112 quartz movement which in standard form retails for 30 Euros (or less) on places like e-Bay etc.

Does anybody have any additional details about the ETA movement Chopard uses for this watch, if they have made any modifications to it etc that might explain the exuberant cost estimates for what appears to be a very basic quartz movement.

Any help / insight will be much appreciated !!
