It turns out that the moment this particular watch has is actually an ETA 252.511 which is an HEQ movement also used in Omega Constellation and several other high quality quartz watches. This movement has been discontinued by ETA in 2008 which helps explain the high the price (technically advanced movement + limited stock availability).

Chopard would modify the quartz. They do improvements for the ETA mechanical. Just did a fast check locally, the full service (including the movement, likely replace with a new piece) is about Euro260. So it is not as exorbitant from your second-hand info...
