The square face in combination with the curves around the lugs does add interest to the dial side I agree. The XL is not a particularly large watch by any measure - and for those who prefer the more classical sizes there’s always the other smaller options.
Santos Dumont XL in RG
A “Must de Cartier” Tank was my first purchased real watch in the early ‘80’s. It died a death in the 90’s - humidity got to the dial and quartz movement. I tried a Tank Solo for a while - but for some reason the steel back and quartz movement bothered me...
It’s a classic.

Love the blue hands with the warm gold case. I can relate to the challenge of finding the right case shape and size, that's been the biggest hurdle to adding a cartier to the collection!
It’s been like going to a restaurant where there are too many choices on the menu.
Where you end up leaving without eating because you couldn’t make up your mind!
With no complications all the focus is on the classic Cartier dial.

What a wonderful beauty! From my point of view, the Santos line gets the kudos.
You made a fantastic decision. There is something about the Santos, which IMHO, conains an element of added exctement in its design, compared to the Tank.
