The ups and downs of my love affair with Cartier

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-11:20
Last week was a bit hectic even by my standards. Monday I arrived in London from Kuala Lumpur. Tuesday I flew off to Geneva for the SIHH courtesy of Cartier who show me the new Tonneau watch. It looked so much better than in the photos, especially in rose...

Actually the decision for me was a lot easier at the end of the day

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-17:49
possibly thanks to my feminine nature! That Tank Normale looks magnificent!!

Only one sis though

 By: sham1 : January 27th, 2019-19:08
but four ex wives!!!

I think so too!!! :-)

 By: sham1 : January 28th, 2019-08:50
Bad habits die hard but the Crash is sublime!!!

Thats indeed a roller coaster of time and decisions my friend . But glad we could spent some time together at SIHH πŸ™πŸ»πŸ€—

You did the right thing imho . Allways follow your instinkt and feelings . Otherwise you will end up with a watch that dosnt give you a great satisfaction after a while . I know we all had that problem at some point with a watch in our collection . I know...

You are so right my friend!!

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-17:51
And thank goodness I made that exact mistake with the Moser!! Hopefully not with the Lang & Heyne!!! And yes meeting up with you was one of my SIHH highlights.

😁

 By: Watchonthewrists : January 26th, 2019-00:00
Thanks my friend , glad you did made that mistake with the Moser πŸ˜‰ (its my fav from the brand)and you know where to find me for the L&H 😁. That watch was a Huge surprise for me , never had the time to have a close look at it before . ITS STUNNING my frien...

It has been five months

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-00:05
and still the Lang & Heyne triumphs over all my other watches when it comes to daily wear. I think you might need to place an order for one of these my friend because waiting for me to sell mine might never happen!

😁 good for you my friend . Happy to hear that .

 By: FabR : January 25th, 2019-13:55

Nathalie is a gem!!!

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-17:54
She had actually taken a 3 hour train to Geneva to meet me at the SIHH and we have become good friends since meeting a year and a half ago when I travelled to Paris to meet Mike H. And thanks to her help, I have managed to get the Cartier I ultimately wan...

Me too!!

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-19:26
I am quite odd in my preference for watches - quite one dimensional and I tend to sway towards dress watches, the smaller the better!

You did well my friend not to rush a decision

 By: Mike H : January 25th, 2019-14:06
As I always say when there is a doubt there is no doubt=don’t do it or at least not in a hurry. Take the time to think it over and the right decision will come on its own... one day... or maybe not πŸ˜‰ but take the time it is not a race. The wonderful ones ...

Thanks Mike for your wise advice!

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-17:56
Actually, one of those three has been decided upon and will arrive in December apparently And this time I will make sure I have enough time in Paris so that NIco, you and I can meet up!!

Hehehe I understand you have been crashed by the one in London πŸ˜‰

 By: Mike H : January 25th, 2019-23:58
Congrats my friend now you seem convinced thus convincing also πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

With a bit of of luck

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-00:03
you will be the very first purist to see this watch after I collect it from Cartier. Will give you ample notice to ensure both Nico and you are available.

Meanwhile you take good care of yourself

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-00:12
and get well soon!!

Ouch, that looks bad ! [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : January 26th, 2019-01:47

Can I ask what happened [nt]

 By: Cpt Scarlet : January 26th, 2019-03:07

It can only get better Mike!

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-02:57
I will add you to my prayers.

You don't know to which extent you are right, it can only get better.

 By: Mike H : January 26th, 2019-08:54
In other words I did not have much to lose (on the other hand the little that was still working was at risk with the surgery so the little that I could have lost was my everything… Now I have 6 weeks to wait before knowing the result and I have to be conf...

Best wishes and heal well!

After care is important. If you'd like suggestions for care complementary to your PT once the cast comes off, you are welcome to pm me.

Please PM me in 6 weeks time when the results are out.

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-10:26
This is by far more important than watches!!!

All of them are spectacular in their own way.

 By: hoseachandra : January 25th, 2019-16:01
But personally I think Cintree is the best looking, with contrasting brushed and polishing finis, and that red crown. The tonneau is abit feminine, the crash more so. Go with your heart. Let us know

Here is a clue!

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-17:57
My feminine side triumphed!!! (as always)

From the pictures alone the one that doesn't look good on your wrist is the Cintree. It seems like it might be a little too big.

 By: Jay (Eire) : January 25th, 2019-18:20
The curve case is very appealing, but I've not seen it in person. It does sound like you've made the right decision and if December comes and you face the same feeling again then you know you must again pass.

OMG!!

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-18:45
Jay, I sure hope that I do not have to go through this again. It was most embarrassing after having allegedly 'fallen in love' with the Tank Cintree a year ago. I am quite sure if this happens again, Cartier Paris might not be as accommodating and I might...

This would seem like the appropriate punishment

 By: sham1 : January 25th, 2019-19:27
should I go fickle again!! I think I will save dinner for Nico and MIke H and hopefully will be able to show them a new watch then

Sounds like a plan Mike

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-00:07
and I will stay the night in Paris to ensure there is no time pressure. I am afraid you will be very busy taking photos of the Crash and the Moritz Grossmann bespoke set!!

This is not a deal

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-00:13
but a great favour you are doing me Thank you!

I will buy a crash [nt]

 By: Passionata_george : January 26th, 2019-07:17

Great choice!!! :-) [nt]

 By: sham1 : January 26th, 2019-10:25

You are way too kind!

 By: sham1 : January 27th, 2019-19:07
I doubt if that makes me a hero especially as Nathalie last year had invited me to join her husband and her at their summer home in the south of France. And please do not use your imagination!!

Difficult choice...but not for me

 By: th.gr.ga : January 27th, 2019-21:58
These models are all beautiful! I’ve recently been bit by the Cartier bug myself and find myself drooling over all their classic models. And like you I find myself veering towards smaller watches in general, loving how they sit on the wrist. Based on your...

Thank you so much for your well thought of reply and your observations!

 By: sham1 : January 27th, 2019-22:20
Looking at the Tonneau, one can say that the slim long numerals actually add to the elegance of the watch. The watch was in rose gold by the way, my preferred metal. I do like the Tonneau but I see quite a few at bargain prices in the used market which do...
