There are several reasons that it wasn't a gift to General Leyer which I have mentioned in private emails.
The most compelling comes from my contact at Antiquorum who informed me that the source of the watch was domestic (ie American).
I will check further with Cartier when I am in Paris.
BTW a daughter of Louis Marx married Daniel Ellsberg. Perhaps there is a connection there ??
