A first live picture of the new Cartier Louis Cartier Big Size

Sep 01, 2017,13:09 PM

Cartier introduced today several models to celebrate the 100th anniversary of one of its icons, the Tank.

The good news is that the Louis Cartier is now available in two sizes consistent with the spirit of the watch. The big size can be worn by men or women. The small size is for women... it was not a question of case size but of strap length when I tried to put it on my wrist!

In both cases, the watches are powered by the handwind caliber 8971MC and are two-hand pieces only.

The big size is 33,7mm x 25,5mm what is perfect for this style of watch: not too large (what was the problem of the Tank Louis Cartier XL), not too small.

I'm happy to see that Cartier is coming back to its roots. Less complicated watches, less bulky pieces and the classic are revisited.

This Tank Louis Cartier is now becoming a very serious option for a dress-watch in PG. And don't forget that the Tank is a very versatile piece which can be also worn with a pair of jeans and a tee-shirt. My only remark would be my wish to replace the chocolate color of the strap by a different color... less formal. But it is just a matter a taste.

I will come back to this piece with more pics.

Do you know anything about the 8971mc movement? I can see that it's previously been used on jewelery pieces with tiny handsets, and wonder whether it might be a very smal movement that could lack robustness or good timekeeping. I'd be pleased to hear if t...

There is much discussion about the choice of movement...

Observations from other forums suggest the 8971 MC movement is actually a Jaeger-LeCoultre 846/1 manual wind caliber and yes, this would be quite small for the case. The movement is neither round nor square, but ellipse-shaped. To get an idea of its propo...

Oh that's interesting.

and taking a great picture capturing the details from the dial and strap colour. I am definitely tempted to purchase as soon as it becomes available. Does the strap come with a pin or a deployant?

Thank you for the enlightening post! :-)

Will these watches be produced in a limited edition or are they part of the regular collection? I love the guilloched dials and the JLC movement as used in the Reverso is not bad either. Most importantly Cartier has made a wearable watch for the majority ...
