An oldie but goodie...Good ole Gefica

Been a longtime lurker here on WatchProSite...and to be honest, I've always been a little confused by the layout and navigation...but I credit this forum for a lot the information that I have used to add to my collection.  For my first post, I thought I'd put up a photo of a favorite from my collection.  Everyone knows about Gerald Genta's design work for the AP Royal Oak and PP Nautilus, but I always felt that the modern Gefica Safari spoke much more of the guy's real personality and flair for the quirky and off-the-beaten-path design.  And at the heart of my preference for the piece is the fact that it is a living and always changing timepiece, being made out of bronze.  It is a watch that is meant to be worn and not safely hidden away in a safe-deposit box.  It's a polarizing piece of design, but I'd say that wearing the watch on the wrist is as timely and timeless as any other part of my collection.  It's a conversation starter for sure, and I welcome any and all comments and opinions about it.  Thanks for all the great info here, and I'm glad to have the opportunity to come out of lurker mode and share with this community!

That is a very cool watch. Genta seemed like he had a very mischievous side to his designs. Maybe something you wouldn't wear at a funeral but who cares. It's fun and different. Nice to know that you actually wear it : )

Welcome Dirt Doog!

I have had a soft spot for these too, and I think there are several others here on the forum. An AD I used to visit regularly overseas repped Genta and always had some on the floor. Many times I flirted with one but never got there. The same AD also reppe...

Well done.

I was always a fan of this watch but I never knew this dial existed. Enjoy in the best of health.

That's a nice Hunter GMT Moon Phase you got there! As much as I love to hate spelling "BVLGARI" with a "V", I'm glad that they continued the Gefica virtually untouched and even came out with this GMT model in keeping with Genta's design language. With the...

Welcome DirtDoog, and thanks for sharing a superb watch with your introductory post -- a real connoisseur's choice! The charm of these classic GG is in my opinion unbeatable.

Thanks for all the friendly words of welcome! I know the Gefica isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it's nice to know there are like-minded folks out there.

Great to have you here DirtDoog

The Gefica was such an introduction at that time and I really liked the black dial, the blue limited edition I only know from pictures. The way the case is made and the materila choosen was so new and I can imagine that it still is a conversation piece. T...

Interesting about the seconds hand

 By: DirtDoog : September 28th, 2020-23:14
It’s funny that you mention the second hand position when the hour hand and the retrograde minutes changes. I was wondering the same thing in observing my own watch. No matter what I do, my seconds hand is always at the 43 seconds or so position at the ho...

Warm welcome here on this amazing and great forum.
