Henrik, just spotted an excellent example of my (and perhaps your) idea of how to add a date to a dress piece.

Today, Hodinkee "Introduced" the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Harrods Edition (limited to 20 pieces). At least at the outset, I'm impressed.
(Here, I have unapologetically stolen Hodinkee's pics. More pics and details available there under "Introducingโฆ.")
Nowโฆ Some may quarrel with the largish uninterrupted space below the 3:00/9:00 meridian. Some may feel an imbalance between the small seconds dial and the date window. But here's the thing: I feel this dial layout, and the heavy date window border, really showcases the date as a complicationโsmall seconds, too. And a lack of numerals allows these two elements to stand out, while both seem somehow integral to the piece as a whole. It just caught my eye and I thought I'd share. (Always interested in your opinion, besides.)
What I don't think anyone could argue with? THAT GREEN STRAP! Rapturous! Best greetings, Fred
