Well, Henrik, then here's another opinion I hope you will find "unfiltered but reasonably argued!"

I'm certain that no one wants to read 1, 2, 83, 4, 5, etc. on the dial of such a marvelous contraption. Could there have been a way to space things differently?
For me, the iconic Breguet numerals (SO beautiful) attract so much attention that one cannot help but combine date and 3 on this dial (at least when the date is a single digit), especially given the critical spacing issue. In fact, Breguet's thoughtful use of the same technique on the date wheel, and with no border on the cut-out (box, whatever) actually invites the eye to combine the two, imho.
But I can hear the argument at headquarters: "If we border the window it calls undue attention to it! This way, we sneak it in!)" "Well, OโฆKโฆ But remember, when the reviewers complain about the fact that there's a 13, a 23, a 33, etc. on the dial, they'll be complaining about your taste, not mine!"
I, myself, am not always offended by a date window. But on this watch, and done in this manner, the watch wouldn't be for me. Perhaps for an attorney in a large law firm who needs a date check quite often as he reviews documents??? In any case, great thanks for taking the time to furnish such ravishing pics. I LOVE the Marine collection, and very much look forward to your posts of the next several days!
(I Lived in Hamburg for a year in the early 80s playing with the Staatsoper. Miss the gluhwein on the Binnenalster in February,
and marvelous spring days with sun-and-birdsongโrainโsnow in a single afternoon! But you may not even live in Hamburg and may have taken the train to see this exhibit. This is the first time we meet, so a warm hello from early summer in Iowa, USA. Our rugosa roses are blooming, and quickly will come the peonies.) Fred
