Well, Henrik, then here's another opinion I hope you will find "unfiltered but reasonably argued!"

I'm certain that no one wants to read 1, 2, 83, 4, 5, etc. on the dial of such a marvelous contraption. Could there have been a way to space things differently?

For me, the iconic Breguet numerals (SO beautiful) attract so much attention that one cannot help but combine date and 3 on this dial (at least when the date is a single digit), especially given the critical spacing issue. In fact, Breguet's thoughtful use of the same technique on the date wheel, and with no border on the cut-out (box, whatever) actually invites the eye to combine the two, imho.

But I can hear the argument at headquarters: "If we border the window it calls undue attention to it! This way, we sneak it in!)" "Well, Oโ€ฆKโ€ฆ But remember, when the reviewers complain about the fact that there's a 13, a 23, a 33, etc. on the dial, they'll be complaining about your taste, not mine!"

I, myself, am not always offended by a date window. But on this watch, and done in this manner, the watch wouldn't be for me. Perhaps for an attorney in a large law firm who needs a date check quite often as he reviews documents??? In any case, great thanks for taking the time to furnish such ravishing pics. I LOVE the Marine collection, and very much look forward to your posts of the next several days!

(I Lived in Hamburg for a year in the early 80s playing with the Staatsoper. Miss the gluhwein on the Binnenalster in February,

and marvelous spring days with sun-and-birdsongโ€”rainโ€”snow in a single afternoon! But you may not even live in Hamburg and may have taken the train to see this exhibit. This is the first time we meet, so a warm hello from early summer in Iowa, USA. Our rugosa roses are blooming, and quickly will come the peonies.)  Fred

A close encounter with the Breguet 5177

Breguet is currently showing its Marine collection and the 2019 novelties in a two week exhibition at the International Maritime Museum in Hamburg... an opportunity I did not want to miss. Kindly enough I was able to spend two hours with the watches to ta...

This one? It is nasty

This one is bound to be very successful

A great dress watch, which has no real competition IMO. Choosing between this and a Chrono Bleu would be very difficult (Breguet wins on the dial side, Journe, on the movement side) Dark enamel is a killer concept - I like it!

Thank you very much! [nt]

This grand feu dial is supremely beautiful!

But I must say the date window completely kills it for me. On this piece, very elegant with its "reduced to the essential" design, putting a hole in it in such a unbalanced way borders on a criminal act! I believe not many customers will use this one as t...

Hey, Fred, thanks a lot for joining the discussion!

Yes, Hamburg can be very beautiful, most recently the city is more famous for endless and uncoordinated roadworks and the subsequent traffic chaos ๐Ÿ˜ณ Personally, I do not at all argue with your opinion on the date window. I see why Breguet wanted to do a n...

Henrik, just spotted an excellent example of my (and perhaps your) idea of how to add a date to a dress piece.

Today, Hodinkee "Introduced" the Vacheron Constantin Traditionnelle Harrods Edition (limited to 20 pieces). At least at the outset, I'm impressed. (Here, I have unapologetically stolen Hodinkee's pics. More pics and details available there under "Introduc...

... and the bold frame of the date window is making a nice impression, as do many other details of this watch. Which does not come as a surprise as Vacheron, similar to Breguet, has a very good sense of design and pays a lot of attention to detail. The on...

A superb piece with a unnecessary window...what a pity, it spoils the pure dial. I understand about the issue wth the LE Ginza version but on the other hand there is a consensus about the issue...

In the hand, this is a stunning watch. Your pictures are excellent.

Definitely a watch that needs to be seen in the real, though. I like a date function, so I'm planning on this watch someday!

Spectacular photos...
