Blancpain leman reveil or Breguet marine big date
I am getting my PhD degree in Math this spring. Yeah! To celebrate this moment, I plan to buy myself my first high-end watch.
Now I settle down on the following two watches:
Blancpain leman reveil GMT titanium and Breguet marine big date black dial.
I travel regularly, so the function set on the Blancpain is perfect to me, but I am a little worried about the reliability due to its complexity and I have an active lifestyle. The dial on the Breguet is really a feast for my eyes, but the draw back is that the Breguet looks so shiny that might be easy to get scratched and attract too much attention from other people. BTW, I will be a lecturer in a university. (Hence Rolex is a no-go.) (I am also interested in the new Breguet type XXI 3817. Since it is relatively a new model, I guess I can get a much better deal if I can wait couple more years.)
What are your thoughts on these two watches or do you have any other suggestions? I am open to the pre-owned market and my budget is 10K USD. My wrist size is 17mm, so I probably won't consider anything larger than 42mm.

To match the Breguet Reveil du Czar. I love the Breguet Marine 5817, but I think you should ditch the black dial and go white dial blued hands. It will not attract overmuch attention.
Maybe a Blancpain with black dial and a Breguet with white dial?

is Rolex a "no-go"? If you want it and can afford it why not get it (if that's what you want). I know the brands you mentioned are somewhat "under the radar" so to speak, except for the occasional seasoned eye so I can understand your no Rolex position so...
I think the problem really is coming more from myself than anyone else...
I just can't picture myself, as a new faculty member, wearing a shiny Rolex in the Math department where even some senior professor wearing G-shock.

Yes. I took a look at GP traveller 2, great value in the used market, but it looks like they have not updated it for a long time. The vintage look may appeal to some people but aesthetically, I prefer the BP. Thanks!

Ignore the rudeness. As for a choice, I usually don't like telling people what to pick, but the Blancpain does have some extra complications that you might find useful.

The Blancpain dial is too busy for my taste. Breguet is cleaner. Enjoy whichever one you choose on it’s own merits. Congratulations.
