Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose??

I sometimes feel like a relic when I see all the current trends. Don't get me wrong, I do respect all cultures, subcultures and appreciate that they are inherently nebulous. Your example about the Cristal is excellent. By no means it was the best champagne yet it became a cult due to marketing and groups who bought into it, After years of turning in and out similar products LV hired Virgil Abloh and voila... the product DNA changed unrecognisably. Mind you Mark Jacobs already had sawn the seeds of change before Virgil in LV. Is it a worse product ? Not necessarily ! I think the marketing teams are always working hard to see how they can harness the attention of the young money and make sure that there is always something new , novel and daring around the corner. We see similar trends in the watch industry too. Technological improvements are always welcome !

Of course you are right, it would be idiotic to turn up your nose at people or their spending choices, after all that's what makes the economy work. It is inevitable that in the process of "progress", "updating" re-inventing" a product you will alienate some of your patrons. What I deem as vulgar might look spectacular to the next person.. Anyway enough of me ranting like a dinosaur smile

Rolls-Royce Horology Phantom

Rolls-Royce has a very active "bespoke" department, that constantly looks for ways to add exclusivity, luxury and additional touches to please discerning owners. Since at least some of us fit the demographic of Rolls-Royce customers, I thought we might en...

It’s nice.

But at that price, why don’t they just put in like a Patek or even JLC wall clock? Maybe mechanical issues and cost are the reason and that typical clients may not care. In theory, I would love to see a car with a built in Atmos clock, so not practical th...

Atmos would not work. It'd break in a car...

Even in a smooth riding car like a Rolls-Royce, at Atmos clock would break. It requires a perfectly level and perfectly still environment. Cannot even put it too close to an air vent as the flow generated would create excessive vibrations. I adored my Rol...

Yeah, I felt like I was pushing it with the Atmos, 😭😭😭

Tesla as “good” as Rolls? Who knows, your friend Musk is always “up”to something.

We shall see! I have a feeling that Rolls Royce will do their best to stay one step ahead. Imagine a battery powered, electric motored Rolls with minimal maintenance!

If Rolls could make a car with a low maintenance, powerful, and extremely efficient Tesla powertrain, sign me up! Tesla powertrain costs so little to run that it's amazing!

What a fine vehicle...

A Rolls-Royce would be an excellent vehicle to own and to enjoy with friends. Maybe an example with four doors is best to be enjoyed with friends, although personally I really like the way the Wraith drives.

Since the BMW takeover Rolls-Royce has gone a very different path

When it was an English company it would have been inconceivable to have a led lit skylight ceiling , a baccarat crystal spirit of ecstasy etc .These so called luxuries are more befitting Hollywood than Old England. Each to their own but I think RR decided...

I think (after watching their PR videos) that their mainstream customer now is a 40's or 50's entreprenuer

And the great majority are not in the UK -- so it's probably true that Hollywood speaks louder than Olde England. There are still upscale picnic and bar sets, Along with the starry night headliner you mention from a California perspective, here's the Pebb...

And I'm definitely not a fan of Virgil Abloh's Louis Vuitton and I have no idea why "Off-White" is even a thing. I definitely liked Brenden Mullane's short tenure at Brioni where one season he made a shockingly modern Japanese inspired collection of suits...

This is maybe my fav RR car for now .

On the topic of watch-related decorations in cars, I'm a fan of the cotes de geneve option you can get with Bentley: However, I will say that quality of the striping looks a bit crude compared to what we're used to seeing on high end pieces. ...
