Had a chance to ride in a friend's Boxster this summer and had a blast, and gained an appreciation for the vehicle. This one is uber cool. M4

Great engine and at the time had the same from end as the 996.

Once you add more than 4 cylinders and reasonably priced you are in rarified air territory. To Patrick's point yes the suspension can be a bit crude but the engine and transmission more than makes up for it. A small gem of a car.

But on the track, you don't have great grip in every situation. A Porsche Cayenne with all the bells and whistles will be faster than this 2 door sports car in some corners on some tracks because of the amazing suspension on the Cayenne.

You're likely thinking of adding coil overs - which can be changed on a McPherson Strut suspension. I'm referring to the entire type and geometry of the suspension. For example, I cannot turn a Porsche 911 GT3 997.1-generation into a Double Wishbone.

I had a few drives in 'Le Conard' his 3.2 Boxster S manual and find it quite soft. The car is fast off course (280 hp), but compared to any of my Renaultsports or the A110 I would classify it as a holiday car. The perfect car collection can be summarized ...  

and I absolutely love it. It's a touch understeery unless you brake right to the apex, but for a road car it handles well, has decent performance, is very comfortable, good-ish economy. My only issue with it is seeing traffic lights without craning my nec... 

... it's probably not much slower on a track than the A110. It sure is a lot faster on a track than my Clio.

...but I drove a friend's Boxster (basic model) a few years ago and was seriously underwhelmed. It was really slow. I suppose I need more money for more horsepower...

.. and I had a go in a 991.2 GT3 .... I'd say he needs a GT4 RS as I was underwhelmed by the 7800 rpm 4 liter :-( ... very fast off course but there it stops.

Even 50 or 80 kilograms won't make a huge difference. Don't get me wrong, they are amazing to drive ! But the weight is quite high anyway, the 2 liter Cayman (manual) I tried is fabulous ... but not compared to an A110, in that case it doesn't shine anymo...
