Did you consider the 320d? The handling of the 3-series is quite fantastic and it's a large car, larger than your Jaguar X-Type. No. I mustn't confuse you, stick to the 120d.
You'll see the light once you own your 120d. You may realize that you like it a lot more than you realize!
